Fall sports tryouts take place this week after school. Fall sports include co-ed flag football, volleyball, cheerleading, and cross country. No student may stay to tryout and participate until the athletic packet has been submitted AND approved by our athletic director. Please contact Ms. Metz (MetzA@lake.k12.fl.us) with any athletics questions
🚨 Safety Drills at TMS 🚨
Keeping our Patriots safe is always our top priority! Throughout the school year, Tavares Middle School conducts a variety of safety drills, including weather and other emergency preparedness drills.
If you are visiting campus during a safety drill—for a meeting, to check out a student, or for any other reason—you will be asked to participate in the drill.
If you arrive at the front office while a drill is in progress, please understand that you will need to wait until the drill has concluded before entering the office.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and partnership as we work together to keep our students, staff, and visitors safe. 💙🇺🇸
Thank you for helping us make safety a priority!
Heading to any Tavares High School football games this season? Awesome! Just remember: all students must attend with a parent or adult guardian.
Welcome to the team, Ms. Colborne! 💙
Smile ready? 📸 School Picture Day is Sept 3! Dress your best and bring your brightest smile.

🎉 What a fantastic first day! 🎉
We loved seeing all our students walk through our doors today with bright smiles and excitement for the year ahead! We can't wait to see everyone again tomorrow for Day 2!
Here's to an amazing year together! 💙📚
🐠 FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL! 🐠
This is YOUR middle schooler at 6 AM tomorrow morning... said no parent ever. 😂
But seriously, we're SO excited to welcome everyone back! Here are a couple of quick reminders for a smooth first day:
✅ Know your dismissal plan! Whether it's bus, car rider, walker, or parent pickup—make sure your student knows exactly how they're getting home. (Trust us, "I forgot" is not a fun phone call at 4 PM!)
✅ Double-check schedules together so you know your first period class. Don't know your first period teacher? We'll have staff ready to help!
Let's make this year AMAZING! See you bright and early! 🎒📚

As we welcome our students back this week, please note that class sizes and schedules may shift slightly over the first few days of school.
Our couselors are actively working through schedule change requests and balancing classroom sizes to ensure every student has the best possible learning environment. We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we make these quick initial adjustments!

🔔 First Day Checklist:
⏰ Reset the clock early: Adjust sleep and wake schedules 3–5 days before day one.
🎒 Night-before prep: Lay out outfits, pack backpacks, and prepare lunches together to eliminate morning panic.
🗺️Know your ride: Know exactly how you're getting home BEFORE you walk through the doors. Bus route number? Carpool pickup spot? Walking route? Memorize it or write it down.
📌Paper schedule: You will get a paper schedule on day one in your first period classroom. Don't know your first period teacher? We will have staff ready to help.
🍔Pre-plan lunch: Agree on a meeting table with friends the night before. Plan on finding a seat quickly and listening to the person on the microphone.
🎒Pack light: Don't carry 40 lbs of binders yet. Notebook, pen/pencil, and water bottle (optional) are all you need for Day 1.
You've got this! ⚡️
Volleyball, Flag Footbal, and Cheerleading meetings are happening TODAY (8/6) following Meet the Teacher. If you and your child would like more information, please plan to attend.
⚠️ PSA: First week of school car rider line = expect the unexpected. Bring snacks, practice your breathing exercises, and remember: we're ALL learning the flow together! 😂 It gets better, we promise!
That entire loading and unloading zone? It's all yours! Don't huddle in one corner—use the space we've got. Your car (and the cars behind you) will thank you. 🙌
P.S. Keep those phones away in the parking lot. We need everyone's eyes on the road! 🚗
